SELECTED CLIENT WORK·CLOUD MODERNISATION·UK PLANT HIRE BUSINESS

Moved critical business systems from on-premise infrastructure to the cloud

Planned and delivered the migration of a UK plant hire business's business-critical server environment, including its rental management platform, from on-premise infrastructure to Microsoft Azure, reducing reliance on on-site hardware and improving resilience, backup and remote accessibility.

The challenge

The business relied on an on-premise server to run Syrinx, its core rental management platform. That made a single physical server and location an important dependency for day-to-day operations.

The objective was to move this critical workload away from local infrastructure without disrupting the system the business depended on to manage its hire operations, while also improving resilience, backup and remote accessibility.

The approach

I reviewed the existing on-premise server environment, Syrinx application requirements and the wider business dependencies before planning the migration to Microsoft Azure.

The migration was designed around business continuity rather than simply moving a server from one location to another. Consideration was given to application availability, user access, connectivity, backup and recovery, and how the new Azure-hosted environment would be supported once live.

I then migrated the server environment into Azure and worked through the transition to ensure users could continue accessing the business-critical rental system from the new platform.

"Moving to the cloud wasn't the objective in itself. The objective was removing an unnecessary physical dependency from a system the business relied on every day."
